Program
Beer, brats, Beethoven & Blues Jeans, what could be more fun? FREE party for ticket holders, FREE brats, $2 Diamond Bear Beer, and music by The Episcopal Collegiate School Steel Drum Band on Markham in front of Robinson before the concert! Mingle with musicians, Philip Mann, DBR, and board members to gear up for this one-of-a-kind concert! ---- About the Concert, by Philip Mann Following last season’s smash hit, the ASO brings back Beethoven and Blue Jeans and we invite our listeners to come for incredible music, but dressed any way they please. As American as Levi’s Jeans, Leonard Bernstein composed the now iconic West Side Story with a decidedly Latinflair. Dance rhythms like the mambo and cha-cha spice up this catchy but poignant modern take on Romeo and Juliet. Love themes, rumbles, and riffs abound as the Sharks and Jets replace the Montagues and Capulets. Always a favorite for musicians and listeners alike, the Symphonic Dances still speaks with as much joy, tenderness, and wild bravado as its original premiere. DBR is a unique artist that defies labels and crosses genres who is known for his distinctive sound and captivating performances. Hear his extraordinary Voodoo Concerto with the ASO as we “plug in” for a concerto for ELECTRIC violin. Of course, we’ve also included two of my personal favorite overtures of the timeless master himself, Beethoven.
