Program
Join us for the now annual tradition of our popular Beethoven and Blue Jeans event where the ASO and record-setting audiences mix popular classics with the innovative in casual fashion. East meets West in the telling of Sinbad and Arabian Nights, in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade- always a smash hit and a perfect piece to introduce a new listener to the ASO experience. You’ll hear the entrancing storyteller in the form of a solo violin, an orchestrated sea storm, and even the sounds of a shipwreck depicted in the percussion.
Of course, Beethoven & Blue Jeans namesake Beethoven opens the program in an extraordinary example of a classical overture, his Creatures of Prometheus. Full of spark and vivacity, the lean orchestral texture transports the listener to an earlier and more magical time. Finally, a unique chance to hear a modern classic, Tan Dun’s Concerto for Pipa adds color and spice to an already exotic menu. Listeners will recognize Dun’s sound from his hit film scores Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero.
