Program

Join the ASO as we launch the season in spectacular fashion! We’ll bring the full forces of the ASO to bear in a program of orchestral favorites featuring Respighi’s awe-inspiring Pines of Rome and Mendelssohn’s vivacious Italian Symphony. In Pines, Respighi summons forth a feast for the ears as he paints with breathtaking clarity several Roman vistas, each with vibrant character brought to life through lush orchestration. In Mendelssohn’s Italian, we’ll hear musical joie de vive in one of the most infectiously animated works of the classical repertoire. Composed on a sojourn in Italy, it is filled with propulsive rhythms and frothy virtuosity which appropriately concludes with a dance in a wild flurry. An Italian flavor continues to infuse the evening as we add to the festivities with Puccini’s stirring Chrysanthemums and a cheeky overture by Rossini.
