All concerts for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season are cancelled

We are very sad to report that ASO must cancel the remaining scheduled performances in the 2019-2020 season to help halt the spread of COVID-19. Our priority must be the health, safety and well-being of our patrons, musicians and staff.

Given the economic hardship of this pandemic on musicians who depend on performing and creating joy for their livelihood, the ASO Board committed to pay ASO musicians through this period of unknowns. Our musicians are here when we need them for inspiring and entertaining concerts at Robinson, teaching our children, and celebrations like weddings and holidays. We want to be there for them now.

Please help us continue supporting our professional musicians by donating your tickets for a tax-deductible donation or exchanging for vouchers for future performances. Your patience and understanding during this difficult time is a gift. Below are directions for how to do this.

The musicians are working to connect with us as they can in this time. Many are giving virtual lessons including the Sturgis Music Academy, and please check out the “Bedtime with Bach” series done each night at 9 p.m. on Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Facebook page. You can see all past ones on our website. This series brought positive national attention to Arkansas when the Washington Post covered it on March 25 (Click here to read the article). Thank you again for your support of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. We look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Information for ticket holders

Without the ability to present live concerts, ASO is hit very hard by the pandemic. As a non-profit organization, we operate on the thinnest of margins, and it is for this reason we ask you to consider the following options.

  1. Donate your ticket back to the ASO. We will issue a tax credit letter to you for the price of your tickets. Visit arkansassymphony.org/cv-donate to donate your tickets and request a tax credit letter.
  2. Exchange your tickets for vouchers. We will issue you one voucher per ticket, good for best available seating in similar section to your original ticket. This voucher will be good for select subscription cconcerts in the 2020-2021 season, and must be redeemed during the 2020-2021 season. You can use it to attend a concert, invite friends to join you for concerts, or to give as a gift. Visit arkansassymphony.org/cv-vouchers to exchange your tickets for vouchers.
  3. Contact the Box Office at (501) 666-1761, ext. 1 or tickets@arkansassymphony.org if you have additional questions.

We urge you to consider these options to help ensure ASO will still be here when the pandemic crisis ends.

A message from ASO

Dear ASO Family,

It is with deep sadness that we must cancel the remaining scheduled performances in Arkansas Symphony’s 2019-2020 season. As humanity faces this crisis together, our world is frozen, our comfortable routines shattered, and we are isolated from our friends and families. As distressing news fills the feeds on our phones, TVs, and newspapers, it is our instinct to find comfort together in the reassuring embrace of live music, but we must have concern for the health and well-being of our patrons, musicians and staff as our first priority. Not being able to perform live for you is heartbreaking for all of us.

Our musicians and staff are determined to continue to serve Arkansas and use the power of music to uplift and heal during this time. Follow our Facebook page and other social media for new digital offerings, like Bedtime with Bach, created by our Concertmaster, Drew Irvin, or the Midday Music Moment. We are also working on preparing some archival recordings for digital streaming and broadcast. Be sure to sign up for our ASO Insider email newsletter to get notifications.

When we finally get through this crisis, music will continue to be our comfort, inspiration and motivation. We look forward to resuming the music you know and love as soon as possible. To this end we have been planning a wonderful and enriching season for 2020-2021. Please know that we are thinking of you, and we hope you will stay safe and health.

Musically yours,

Jan Hundley, Chair, ASO Board of Directors

David Gerstein, ASO Principal Cello, Chair, ASO Players’ Association

Christina Littlejohn, CEO
