Trombone & Bass Trombone

David Carter has been the bass trombonist of the Arkansas Symphony since 1991. A versatile musician, he has performed with the ASO on tenor trombone, Tenor Tuba, bass trumpet, and bass tuba in addition to bass trombone. Before coming to Arkansas, David played Bass trombone with the Richardson Symphony, tenor trombone with the Dallas Wind Symphony, and the Shreveport Symphony. He has also played thousands of big band dates and many Broadway style Musicals.

An active music educator David has taught an unusually broad range, from Kindergarten to Collegiate. As a band director he has had bands win Sweepstakes, and as a private teacher he has had students selected for All State Band, including first chairs, in Arkansas and in Texas.

David is a native of Texas, and began music lessons during his junior year, paying for them with his paper route. By his senior year he had become a member of the Texas All State Band and had been selected for the U.S. Air Force ”Band of the West”. Upon completion of his military Service, David attended Baylor University, and the University of Texas. At Baylor he performed the Vaughn Williams Tuba Concerto with the Baylor Wind Ensemble. At the University of Texas he was a utility sub for the Austin Symphony on Bass Trumpet and Tenor tuba in addition to Bass Trombone.

David resides in North Little Rock with his wife Susan, DeDe the dog, and Tiger Lily the cat.
