 un / Claude Debussy\nb. Saint-Germain en Laye\, France / August 22\, 1862
  - March 25\, 1918\nDelicate textures\, colorful timbres\, and fleeting mo
ods are all hallmarks of the French impressionist movement led by Claude D
ebussy. His works became defining pieces of the Impressionist sound\, and
Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun is often seen as a turning point in mus
ic history\, often cited as the beginning of "modern music." As soon as li
steners hear the opening notes of this revolutionary piece\, they will be
transported to a sensual and hazy landscape\, shimmering like a dream\, an
 d floating just beyond reach.\n___________________________________________
 ____________________________________\nCello Concerto in C / Joseph Haydn
 \nb. Rohrau\, Austria / March 31\, 1732 - May 31\, 1809\nComposed around 1
761\, Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto in C was lost for nearly two centuries
before being discovered in a private collection in Czechoslovakia. It is
thought to be one of young Haydn's best works. Magnificent exchanges betwe
en soloist and orchestra combined with the lovely and rich sound of the ce
 llo that sings unabashedly throughout.\n__________________________________
 _____________________________________________\nSymphony No. 8 / Antonín D
 vořák\nb. Nelahozeves\, Czechia / September 8\, 1841 - May 1\, 1904\n\nS
ongful\, warm\, and optimistic-these are just a few of the words used to d
escribe Antonín Dvořák's 8th Symphony. Unlike his past works\, which we
re dramatic and stormy\, this symphony feels like a sunny walk through the
forest in summertime - simply bursting with the joy of being alive.\n \

nd: Symphony No. 3\n\nABOUT THE PROGRAM\nEarworms / Vivian Fung\nb. Edmont
 on\, Canada / 1975-\nVivian Fung's Earworms is a funky\, modern masterpiec
e that constantly changes and evolves. Described by NPR as "one of today's
most eclectic composers\," Fung brings a vivid and unpredictable style to
this modern orchestral piece. Written with a "stream of consciousness" ap
proach that mirrors the disjointed\, obsessive nature of internal musical
 repetition\, it is a work of art.\nMeanwhile\, in 2018...\n\nIn the U.K.\,
Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle\, marking only the se
cond time a member of the British royal family wed an American.\nThe Winte
r Olympics took place in South Korea\, drawing the world's attention to at
hleticism and global unity.\nIn Arkansas\, we celebrated a milestone of ou
r own: Florence B. Price\, the groundbreaking composer born in Little Rock
\, was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame!\n\n_________________
 ______________________________________________________________\nDon Juan /
  Richard Strauss\nb. Munich\, Germany / June 11\, 1864 - September 8\, 194
9\n"Out and away\, to new conquests!"\nSo begins Don Juan\, Richard Straus
s's audacious musical foray into the world of one of literature's most not
orious lovers. With blazing orchestration\, daring virtuosity\, and youthf
ul swagger\, this tone poem catapulted the 25-year-old Strauss into intern
ational fame.\nMeanwhile\, in 1889...\n\nThe Eiffel Tower was inaugurated
in Paris\, a marvel of modern engineering and a symbol of new heights (muc
h like Strauss's own leap into fame).\nCharlie Chaplin was born in London\
, another artist who would later combine humor and tragedy to great effect
.\nIn Little Rock\, Arkansas\, steam and electric transit systems were bei

 ______________\nPiano Concerto No. 1 / Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky\nb. Votkin
 sk\, Russia / May 7\, 1840 - November 6\, 1893\n\n "..you have without dou
bt enriched the world of music as never before". -pianist Hans von Bulow\,
1875.\nTchaikovsky's music is known for its sweeping melodies\, lush orch
estration\, and deeply emotional character\, all of which are fully displa
yed in this concerto. While audiences today may know him best for The Nutc
racker and other ballets such as Swan Lake\, Tchaikovsky's first piano con
certo helped cement his reputation as a master of orchestration. It is kno
wn for its unconventional form\, which is freer than usual for a concerto
of this time\, and its highly romantic and virtuosic melodies that will su
rely bring the audience to its feet.\nMeanwhile\, in 1875...\n\nThe first
indoor game of ice hockey took place in Montreal.\nIn the American West\,
a young outlaw known as Billy the Kid was arrested for the first time-his
crime: stealing food.\nCloser to home\, construction was completed on Old
Main at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville\, and the doors opened
to the iconic Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs\, setting the stage for gener
ations of Southern grandeur.\n\n&nbsp\;\n	Want to secure seats now? As a s

you a ticket voucher as a thank you!\n\nABOUT THE PROGRAM\nPiano Concerto
 No. 4 / Ludwig van Beethoven\nb. Bonn\, Germany / December 1770-March 26\
 , 1827\n\nPremiered alongside his Fifth and Sixth symphonies\, Beethoven's
Fourth Piano Concerto was his first that truly demonstrated his mature co
mpositional voice as both a pianist and a visionary. From the first beat\,
Beethoven breaks convention\, as the piece opens with solo piano-gently a
nd improvisatory -before the orchestra enters\, a reversal of the usual ro
les in which the orchestra welcomes the soloist. The entire concerto unfol
ds as a love letter to dialogue: an intimate\, at times dramatic conversat
ion between soloist and orchestra. Tender\, daring\, and inventive\, Beeth
oven's Piano Concerto No. 4 remains one of his most expressive and tender
works to date.\nMeanwhile\, in 1809&#8230\;\n\nAmerican inventor Robert Fu
lton received the first patent for the steamboat\nU.S President James Madi
son was sworn in as the fourth president of the United States\,\nIn Kentuc
ky\, Abraham Lincoln\, future 16th president of the United States\, was bo
rn. \nElsewhere\, Louis Braille\, responsible for developing the writing
system for visually impaired readers\, was born in Coupvray\, France. \nA
rkansas was yet to become a territory for another 10 years!\n\n___________

e from "La noche de los Mayas" / Silvestre Revueltas (arr. Hindemith) \nb
 . Santiago Papasquiaro\, Mexico / December 31\, 1899 - October 5\, 1940\nA
rranged as a suite by German composer Paul Hindemith\, the film score for
the 1939 movie La noche de los Mayas (The Night of the Mayas) vividly illu
strates a Mayan civilization living in seclusion until the arrival of outs
iders disrupts their world. The two-movement suite perfectly captures the
original spirit of composer Silvestre Revueltas-raw\, intimate\, and deepl
y expressive. \nMeanwhile\, in 1946&#8230\;\n\nThe first General Assembly
of the United Nations convened\, marking a new era of global diplomacy fo
llowing the end of World War II.\nIn Mississippi\, young Elvis Presley rec
eived a guitar for his 11th birthday- a gift that would unknowingly shape
the future of American rock and roll. \nIn Arkansas\, future President Bi

was also welcomed to the world. \nRiceland Foods- now the world's larges

 nb. Alamos\, Mexico / December 20\, 1950 -\n\nDanzón No. 2\, perhaps Mexi
can composer Arturo Márquez's most well-known work\, is a fiery crowd fav
orite. It brings the sensual elegance of the Cuban dance hall to life. Aud
iences will be spellbound as they experience the lush melodies\, smolderin
g syncopated rhythms\, and bursts of bold color that abound throughout thi
s piece. \nMeanwhile\, in 1994&#8230\;\n\nNelson Mandela was sworn in as
South Africa's first Black president.\nArkansas' own Bill Clinton was elec
ted as the 42nd President of the United States.\nForest Gump\, The Shawsha

DESCRIPTION:\n\n	Blake Pouliot\, violin\nGeoffrey Robson\, conductor\nProgr
am\n\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 40\nJohannes Brahms: Violin Co
 ncerto\, Op. 77 with Blake Pouliot\, violin\n\nABOUT THE PROGRAM\nEarworms
  / Vivian Fung\nb. Edmonton\, Canada / 1975-\nVivian Fung's Earworms is a
funky\, modern masterpiece that constantly changes and evolves. Described
by NPR as "one of today's most eclectic composers\," Fung brings a vivid a
nd unpredictable style to this modern orchestral piece. Written with a "st
ream of consciousness" approach that mirrors the disjointed\, obsessive na
ture of internal musical repetition\, it is a work of art.\nMeanwhile\, in
2018...\n\nIn the U.K.\, Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Mar
kle\, marking only the second time a member of the British royal family we
d an American.\nThe Winter Olympics took place in South Korea\, drawing th
e world's attention to athleticism and global unity.\nIn Arkansas\, we cel
ebrated a milestone of our own: Florence B. Price\, the groundbreaking com
poser born in Little Rock\, was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of F
 ame!\n\n__________________________________________________________________
 _____________\nDon Juan / Richard Strauss\nb. Munich\, Germany / June 11\,
  1864 - September 8\, 1949\n"Out and away\, to new conquests!"\nSo begins
Don Juan\, Richard Strauss's audacious musical foray into the world of one
of literature's most notorious lovers. With blazing orchestration\, darin
g virtuosity\, and youthful swagger\, this tone poem catapulted the 25-yea
r-old Strauss into international fame.\nMeanwhile\, in 1889...\n\nThe Eiff
el Tower was inaugurated in Paris\, a marvel of modern engineering and a s
ymbol of new heights (much like Strauss's own leap into fame).\nCharlie Ch
aplin was born in London\, another artist who would later combine humor an
d tragedy to great effect.\nIn Little Rock\, Arkansas\, steam and electric
transit systems were being built\, ushering in a new era of connectivity
 and progress in our community.\n\n________________________________________

 ch Tchaikovsky\nb. Votkinsk\, Russia / May 7\, 1840 - November 6\, 1893\n\
n "..you have without doubt enriched the world of music as never before".
-pianist Hans von Bulow\, 1875.\nTchaikovsky's music is known for its swee
ping melodies\, lush orchestration\, and deeply emotional character\, all
of which are fully displayed in this concerto. While audiences today may k
now him best for The Nutcracker and other ballets such as Swan Lake\, Tcha
ikovsky's first piano concerto helped cement his reputation as a master of
orchestration. It is known for its unconventional form\, which is freer t
han usual for a concerto of this time\, and its highly romantic and virtuo
sic melodies that will surely bring the audience to its feet.\nMeanwhile\,
in 1875...\n\nThe first indoor game of ice hockey took place in Montreal.
\nIn the American West\, a young outlaw known as Billy the Kid was arreste
d for the first time-his crime: stealing food.\nCloser to home\, construct
ion was completed on Old Main at the University of Arkansas in Fayettevill
e\, and the doors opened to the iconic Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs\, se
tting the stage for generations of Southern grandeur.\n\n&nbsp\;\n	Want to
