Justin Isenhour

isenhourJustin Isenhour joined the faculty at Ouachita Baptist University in 2011. He is active as a performer, teacher and adjudicator throughout the Southeast. As an Instructor of Music, Dr. Isenhour teaches Applied Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba; directs the OBU Low Brass Ensemble and teaches Music Theory and Aural Skills courses.

Dr. Isenhour performs in a wide variety of genres including Classical, Jazz and Commercial music. He has performed with The Charlotte Symphony, The Augusta Symphony, The Blumenthal Theater, The Greeley Philharmonic, The South Carolina Philharmonic, The Long Bay Symphony and The Union Symphony. In addition to his performance activities, he has taught at the University of South Carolina, the University of Northern Colorado and worked as a middle school band director in Fort Mill, SC.

In Summer 2012 he received his Doctorate in Musical Arts from The University of South Carolina. He also holds degrees from Appalachian State University and the University of Northern Colorado, where his primary teachers included Brad Edwards, Nat Wickham and Harold McKinney. In addition to these teachers, he has also worked with Nitzan Haroz, Randy Hawes, Gene Pokorny, Dave Taylor, Charlie Vernon, Buddy Baker, Carl Lenthe, Wycliffe Gordon and Larry Zalkind.

Dr. Isenhour’s article on approaching ornamentation in Johann Georg Albrechtsberger's Concerto in B-flat for Trombone (1769) appeared in the April 2006 International Trombone Association Journal (Volume 35, Number 2). In 2009, he received Level II certification in Creative Motion® teaching.

He currently resides in Arkadelphia, AR with his beautiful wife, Jennifer, and their son, Owen.
