The ASO is excited to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the premiere of the symphonic arrangement of "No Tears Suite" with a rebroadcast of the original performance from 2019! Check back here Saturday, March 6th at 7 PM for the concert.
We are proud to work with our original partners, Oxford American, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, and Central High School, to celebrate two years of this historic concert. Written by jazz pianist Chris Parker and vocalist Kelley Hurt, "No Tears Suite" is inspired by Melba Pattillo Beals' memoir Warriors Don't Cry about the 1957 Little Rock Central High School desegregation crisis. The "No Tears Suite" honors the sacrifices and ongoing work of all those who strive to build a more just and equal society.
In 2019 members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, along with many other jazz musicians, including Grammy-winning drummer, Brian Blade, premiered a reprise of the original performance with a new symphonic arrangement by bassist Rufus Reid.
