2020-2021 Season Update

2021 update

We have all had to miss out on a lot because of the pandemic, and we don’t want our patrons to miss out on the interesting, inspiring concert season planned for this year because of the necessary safety precautions for our musicians, staff and fellow audience members.

Therefore, we have made some exciting changes to the season.

Under current conditions we are unable to have full orchestras or full audiences. Because it is very important to us that our full orchestra and audience get to experience every guest conductor, we have postponed the Music Director search until 21-22. All currently scheduled guest conductors have been rescheduled to the 21-22 season. Our artistic planning team is working with the conductors to work out the details of the 21-22 season, and it is our goal to preserve as much of the programs from 20-21 as possible, as well as the guest artist lineup, including violinist, Gil Shaham.

The current season Masterworks concerts will now be conducted by Interim Artistic Director, Geoffrey Robson.
Maestro Robson is creating new concerts that will contain inspiring works that would ordinarily not be able to appear on the Masterworks stage, simply due to scale. The reimagined program will feature works like Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, Anne Clyne’s Within Her Arms, Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat.

The 20-21 Acxiom Pops Live! Season has been Rescheduled for 21-22.
As you have experienced, programs in the Pops Live! Series often feature large string ensembles, full winds and percussion, solo vocalists, and backup singers. With the restrictions imposed on the ASO by the pandemic, we are unable to stage an orchestra adequate for the exciting programs you enjoy. Rather than present an inferior product, we have rescheduled the entire 20-21 Pops Live! series to the 21-22 season.

If you purchased tickets to the 20-21 Pops Live! Season your tickets have been automatically moved to the 21-22 season, where your seats and pricing are guaranteed.

All subscribers can expect a letter the week of  September 21, 2020 with more detailed information.

The 20-21 River Rhapsodies Chamber Music Series is continuing as currently scheduled. The September, October, and November presentations will be presented virtually via live streams. We will present the Spring portion of the series as hybrid in-person and live streamed concerts, provided restrictions on staging are eased by that time. The upcoming schedule of virtual concerts can be found here.

The Fall calendar is very full – and growing daily – with exciting live streamed concerts, educational presentations, behind-the-scenes access, and in-person concerts in outdoor, open-air venues – all free to the public! Visit ArkansasSymphony.org/fall-events for the full calendar, and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest information.
