Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Youth Programs

One of the ways the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra serves the community is by providing music education. The ASO Sturgis Music Academy, directed by Dr. Tze-Ying Wu, teaches violin and cello to more than 200 children. This video was produced for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's Opus Ball in 2017.

The Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra - the top of four ensembles in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Youth Ensembles program - performed at the Albert Pike Masonic Center in Little Rock on Sunday, November 12, 2017. The program featured Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Jennifer Higdon's blue cathedral, selections from Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, and selections from Haydn's "Nelson" Mass. Geoffrey Robson, conductor Parkview High School Madrigals & Lab Singers, Carolyn Foreman, director Ekaterina Kotcherguina, soprano Veena Akama-Makia, mezzo-soprano Daniel Foltz-Morrison, tenor Emery Stephens, bass This video includes the Berlioz and Haydn portions of the concert.

The ASO distributed 2,200 tickets to a special Symphony Celebration: Thank You, Little Rock concert on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016. The free concert, sponsored by the Stella Boyle Smith Foundation and the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, is a special event to say "Thank You" to the citizens of Little Rock, who voted to approve a bond issue to renovate the Robinson Center. The two-year renovation is complete and the ASO opens the facility with several private and public events in November of 2016. The music in this video is the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra performing the Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture.
